Terrific Twitter Trio of the Week

Lots of musicians tweet — but all that Twitters is not gold.

That’s why you’ll want to check out SPIN.com every Friday to see whose tweets we’re reading this week — then update your TweetDeck! (Obligatory Self-Promotion: …while you’re at it, be sure to follow @SPINmagazine!)

This week’s winners:

  • OK Go’s Timothy Nordwind
    @timothynordwind

    Why You Should Follow: OK Go recently released their third album, the Prince-esque Of the Blue Colour of the Sky, and are currently touring Europe. But even though they’ve been busy, bassist Timothy Nordwind has still found time to tweet. Whether he’s getting fans pumped for concerts (“London, lets have a snowball fight!!!!!!!!!”), cracking puns (“If something is a pain in the ass, or an inconvenient struggle you could say, ‘Damn man, that was a total David HASSELhoff'”), or making observations about the world around him (“Walked into a McDonalds and it had a fireplace. Seemed awfully romantic for a McDonalds”), his tweets are often funny, sweet, and genuine. Expect lots of shout-outs to fans and cities (“Birmingham, you’re cold and grey, but I love you, and wanna be with you all the time”) and hilarious Twitpics, like this one of Nordwind and “Mr. Mustache.”

    Best Tweet of the Week: This shot of Nordwind warming up before a show in Norwich, England, wearing a ridiculous (but awesome) furry hat.

    • Ke$ha
      @keshasuxx

      Why You Should Follow: When news broke that pop star Ke$ha was about to steal X Factor phenomenon Susan Boyle’s #1 spot on the Billboard charts, the saucy singer tweeted, “I’d like to challenge Susan Boyle to a televised glitter gun duel…” And now that her debut album, Animal, has secured itself at the top of the charts, Ke$ha added: “Thank u for making me really feel like diddy today!!!” Of course, fame comes with its price — she has to deal with annoying fans (“Ironic that the obnoxious little devil babies sitting behind me on the plane started singing tiktok after spilling soup in my hair”) and a crippled love life (“Men I try to date suck ass”). But the magazine photo shoots, Hollywood parties, and extra ca$h (“drinks tonight!!! Who wanna come have a shot? I’m buyin!!”) seem to make up for it. Expect lots of hilarity and self-deprecation (“I can officially be a one hit wonder!!!”) in Ke$ha’s frequent tweets.

      Best Tweet of the Week: “i just got a teenage mutant ninja turtles snuggie. this is not a test. this is real life shit.”

      • Blink-182’s Travis Barker
        @travisbarker

        Why You Should Follow: Blink-182 bassist Mark Hoppus already made our Follow Friday list, but drummer Travis Barker’s tweets are just as entertaining. He includes pictures of his art collection and precious moments with his children, as well as recording sessions with RZA and Pharrell Williams. He writes about watching the sunrise, eating Laffy Taffys, and playing laser tag, battling it out with the paparazzi, and listening to his son’s band, The Vampires, practice in their basement (“It’s goin down at my house right now, full on band practice. 5 kids deep. 4 drummers & 1 guitar player”). Bonus points: He often posts sneak peeks at upcoming projects, like his Famous Stars and Straps shoe line, due sometime in early 2010.

        Best Tweet of the Week: “#thisismydream I am living it.”
