Already a star in her native Iceland, Ólöf Arnalds is best known in the States as a member of pop experimentalists múm. Her first solo album should change that. Björk, an avowed superfan, has described Arnalds’ voice as “somewhere between a child and old woman” — and here, it’s both pure and witchy. A stunning alto, Arnalds sings in her native language with minimal accompaniment, and it’s easy to imagine her as a forlorn maiden gingerly plucking an acoustic guitar on the edge of a mystical, snowy wood.
