Devo to Play Classic Albums on Fall Tour
Plus: New Wave band's first studio album in 20 years due in 2010. Click here for details and tour dates!
Dust off your energy dome hats: After popping up for a gig at SXSW this past March, Devo, the experimental, multimedia band best known for their breakthrough classic, “Whip It,” will tour this fall in select cities to perform their hit albums, 1978’s Are We Not Men? and 1980’s Freedom of Choice in their entirety!
This isn’t, however, just some generic reunion tour: Devo will be releasing a new studio album in 2010 through Warner Bros., the band’s former — and now current — record label.
“We are excited to embark on Devo’s latest sonic subversion with the label that first unleashed us on the unsuspecting public,” said Devo bassist/synth player Gerald Casale, who joins original members Bob Casale, Mark Mothersbaugh, and Bob Mothersbaugh in the lineup, along with drummer Josh Freese.
In conjunction with the upcoming tour, Warner will reissue Devo’s Are We Not Men? and Freedom of Choice as deluxe versions on Nov. 3. Tickets for the tour go on sale Friday, Sept. 18, and any fans purchasing tickets online will gain access to three unreleased Devo demos, just unearthed from their vaults, including a four-track version of “Whip It” and an early version of “It’s Not Right,” which was then called “Red Shark” and had different lyrics.
