Sunny Day Real Estate Reunite!

Sunny Days are here again. Following months of rumors of a Sunny Day Real Estate reunion, the Seattle emo pioneers have confirmed a 20-date fall tour.

The outing marks the first reformation of the band’s original lineup — frontman Jeremy Enigk, Foo Fighters bassist Nate Mendel, former Foos drummer William Goldsmith, and guitarist Dan Hoerner — since they disbanded in 1995 following Mendel’s departure. The rest of the group reunited without Mendel in 1997, recording two more albums (1998’s How It Feels to Be Something On and 2000’s The Rising Tide) before breaking up again in 2001.

“I’ve always had a feeling of unfinished business,” Mendel explained in a statement.”We had all these outsized ideas back then, ‘Everyone’s going to learn a new instrument,’ and ‘Let’s do a rock opera,’ but before we could get anywhere with them, the band broke up. We left behind all these weird and beautiful songs, though, and they’ve stuck with me all this time. I’m really happy that we get a chance to play them together again.”

The tour is scheduled to kick off on September 17 in Vancouver, BC, and hit major cities across America before concluding October 16 in Seattle, WA. No further dates have been announced, though rumors of an appearance at Seattle’s Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival have been rampant following a Twitter posting (which has since been removed) by KEXP DJ Marco Collins that teased: “Sunny Day Real Estate @ Bumbershoot? Fact or fiction?” [Via SeattleWeekly.com]

In addition, Sunny Day Real Estate’s former label, Sub Pop, has announced plans to reissue the band’s first two records, 1994’s Diary and 1995’s LP2, on September 15. The reissues will feature remastered audio, rare bonus tracks, and newly written liner notes.
