This Portland, Oregon duo play the kind of hazy, beguiling alt folk that feels uniquely suited to floating downriver on an inner tube or reclining in a hammock, counting clouds. Nelson Kempf’s soft, round vocals are almost uncannily similar to Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold’s, and the Old Believers mine similar sonic ground, taking cues from classic country and folk, mixing in the occasional oddball burble or synth line. Kempf’s partner Keeley Boyle has a gentle, languorous voice that’s equally rich and cottony, and their harmonies make Eight Golden Greats a lush, lulling ride.
