Weezer Plot North American Tour

Who? Los Angeles-based purveyors of catchy power-pop Weezer, fronted by bespectacled genre luminary River Cuomo, and featuring guitarist Brian Bell, bassist Scott Shriner, and drummer Patrick Wilson.

What? A 21-date North American outing leading the Spin cover boys across the U.S. and into select Canadian cities, beginning with a gig at Boston’s Tsongas Arena Sept. 23. Blink-182 offshoot Angels & Airwaves and Canadian post-punkers Tokyo Police Club will open all dates.

Should I Go? Absolutely. The quartet’s latest set, a self-titled affair dubbed the Red Album, is yet another catchy, guitar-centric work to be added to the band’s robust cannon. And there’s those two mind-bogglingly decisive records — 1994’s Weezer, referred to as the Blue Album, and the emo/indie-rock landmark Pinkerton — from which Cuomo and co. always churn out plenty of hits to get fans singing along. Plus: Don’t forget, the band throws one hell of a hootenanny.
