Gliss

Who? While David Reiss (bass/guitar) and Martin Klingman (vocals/guitars) were searching for a drummer four years ago, they discovered Denmark-born, L.A. expat, vocalist Victoria Cecilia, who also happens to moonlight behind the skins. She’s not the only one on the sticks, though; both Reiss and Klingman play drums, and a typical Gliss set includes a few instrument-switches.

What’s the Deal? After covering “Rhinoceros” for the Spin/MySpace Smashing Pumpkins tribute CD, these L.A. rockers start their summer tour by opening for the Smashing Pumpkins during their Asheville residency. The band’s debut album, Love the Virgins (out Aug. 14th via the Cordless imprint), is chock full of dreamy, drugged out vocals, sexy bass lines, and grunge-y guitar licks. Fans of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Darker My Love should sync up with songs like the dark dance-hall hit “Kissing the Boulevard,” and the Kills-like “Blue Sky,” along with synth-heavy “I Want You,” and the swampy atmospherics of “Innocent Eyes.”

Fun Fact: Gliss is also branching out to the realm of television. Recently, their song “Huh What?” was featured in a MasterCard commercial.
