Chase Pagan

Who? Chase Pagan is a new passenger on the fast track out of heartland obscurity and into the indie spotlight. This spring alone, the earnest singer/songwriter issued his self-titled debut EP, landed a performance spot at SXSW, and toured the western United States. Earlier this month, Pagan found his place among the über-hipster zenith: an gig at Williamsburg, Brooklyn’s Union Pool. His full-length debut, Oh, Musica! drops this fall via The Militia Group.

What’s the Deal? Chase Pagan may look the part of a bearded indie rock darling, but his confident vocals paired with stylistic dexterity bring a classic rock edge to his musical theatrics. With a self-described mix of soul, indie, and pop, Chase reveals a unique flexibility, transitioning seamlessly from the dramatic tango underpinnings of “Spanish Tongue” to the piano-driven melodies, electric guitars, and his high-register voice that lend a distinctly Queen sound to “Play the Game.” On “Viola,” Chase lets the piano run into powerful vocals backed by energetic but unfrenetic drumming. “Open up your mind and let me step inside,” Chase croons. But of course!

Fun Fact: As a native of Little Rock, AR, Pagan declares himself to be a good, old fashioned backwoods boy with an affinity for hunting. Want to read up on Pagan’s adventures of hunting elk and alligators? Check out Pagan’s hunting blog.
