Broken Social Scenester to Release ‘Spirit’

Broken Social Scene songwriting force Kevin Drew has announced the release of Spirit If…, the first installment in the “Broken Social Scene Presents” series, which will offer solo albums from the collective’s numerous members. Arriving Sept. 18 via Toronto-based imprint Arts & Crafts, Drew’s new material was recorded over the past two years with fellow Scenesters Ohad Benchetrit and Charles Spearin. The series’ second installment, penned by core member Brendan Canning, is slated to drop early next year. According to a statement, Spirit If… concentrates on Drew’s preferred lyrical content: “fucking, fighting, fearing, and hope.”

Although complete details have yet-to-be announced, Drew, Brendan Canning, and, Justin Peroff along with additional BSS constituents, will hit the road this fall for the “Broken Social Scene Performs” series, a collaborative tour showcasing each members’ respective solo material. A Spirit If… tracklisting has yet-to-be confirmed.
