Arctic Monkeys Clown Around

Clowns stage a brawl in the video for "Fluorescent Adolescent," the second single from Arctic Monkeys' Favourite Worst Nightmare.

In the video for “Fluorescent Adolescent,” Brit Award-winners Arctic Monkeys continue their assault on American shores. Directed by Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd/Nathan Barley), the video depicts a gang of clowns seeking revenge on the man, and leading the pack is silver screen thug Stephen Graham (Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch), a.k.a. “Scummy Man,” the charming con artist portrayed in the Arctic Monkeys’ “When the Sun Goes Down” music video. Here, donning full circus attire, Graham and crew kick some serious ass, but it’s Graham’s connection with another fellow, presumably a childhood friend, that really ties such adult tomfoolery together. He asks his old mate, “How did it come to this?” as he flashbacks to the good days of riding bikes and playing on the swing-set. Growing up is hard to do, isn’t it?
