Harlan’s Video Plays ‘Games’ With Your Head

Harlan’s “Computer Games Under the Sun” could be the most touching journey undertaken by an inanimate object in a music video since Blur highlighted the pathos of a half-pint of milk in “Coffee & TV”. Inspired by the surreal paintings of Harlan’s creator, John Harlan Norris, the clip follows a mysterious bottle of household cleaner on a quest to bury his past. If the premise sounds a bit bleak, the quartet’s rhythmic Beck-meets-XTC bleeps keep it from being a bummer. Harlan’s The Still Beat is beating now on Odd Thud Records. BRIANA MOWREY
