Chris Cornell Pens New 007 Theme

Joining the ranks of artists like Madonna, Duran Duran, and Garbage, Chris Cornell will perform the theme song to the next James Bond film, Casino Royale, which stars Daniel Craig as the new Bond. With “You Know My Name,” a collaboration with Bond composer David Arnold, Cornell becomes one of the few artists to both write and record a Bond theme — Paul McCartney & Wings, Sheryl Crow, and Madonna are the others. The film arrives in theaters Nov. 17. “I’ve always loved Chris’ work, both as a writer and as an artist, and had hoped someday to find the right film to inspire him,” said Columbia Pictures’ Lia Vollack, who heads the studio’s worldwide music branch. “His music is both soulful and tough. It was the perfect complement to Daniel Craig and Casino Royale.” British electronic mavens Goldfrapp had been rumored to be the next Bond songsmiths.
