Rapper’s Assailant Acted in Lawful Self-Defense

The man who shot and killed rapper Proof in a Detroit nightclub on April 11 is not likely to face murder charges after a Michigan prosecutor decided yesterday that he acted lawfully in another man’s defense. Mario Etheridge, a bouncer at the CCC nightclub in Detroit, shot Proof (born Deshaun Holton) after the rapper fired at Etheridge’s cousin, Keith Bender. Still, Etheridge will face weapons charges stemming from the shooting. If he is convicted, he could face up to nine years in prison: five on the concealed weapon charge, four for discharging a firearm.
