Noel Gallagher: Leave the Monkeys Alone!

Noel Gallagher isn’t usually one to dote on anything or anyone other than his music and himself, but the Oasis guitarist recently showered praise on the hugely buzzed-about Arctic Monkeys.

While Morrissey recently suggested that the young Monkeys had achieved success too fast, Gallagher stuck up for the lads. “It happens when it happens, man, and I would say thank God that it does happen,” he told the Toronto Sun. “You’d be a bit of an idiot if you said, ‘No, I’m too young for a record deal.'”

Morrissey, meanwhile, said the band was over-hyped and not nearly weathered enough to deserve the kind of attention they’ve been getting.

“It’s happening all too quickly for them,” he said, according to NME. “They haven’t proved a thing and they haven’t had to work very hard — that must make them insecure. It’s all a bit unnatural. OK, they’ve sold about 700,000 albums, but it can’t be gratifying. They haven’t been driving down the M1 for 15 years.”

Gallagher, though, figures the band is “as embarrassed by [the hype] as people who don’t like them… They’re probably as upset about it as Morrissey is, but there’s nothing they can do about it. You’ve just got to fucking get out there man and ride it out.”

Those sick of Monkeys-mania might enjoy this not-so-work-safe diversion.
