It’s Gorillaz at the Apollo

Not that performing alongside Madonna at the Grammy Awards is anything to scoff about, but Gorillaz’ latest performance announcement is just a bit more groundbreaking.

In early April, the animated outfit will take up residency at Harlem’s legendary Apollo Theater for five nights, with guests including De La Soul, Ike Turner, Shaun Ryder, Neneh Charry, Bootie Brown (Pharcyde), Roots Manuva, and others. Along with Gorillaz co-creator Damon Albarn, those featured performers will help bring Demon Days to life.

Like their residency at the Manchester Opera House in November, this set of dates is being called a “tribute” to the band, because unlike the holographic tour they are working on for 2007-2008, this will feature the band members in 3D, albeit behind a screen.

Tickets for the Apollo residency go on sale Friday, March 10 at 11 A.M. EST via Ticketmaster.
