U2, Rolling Stones: Shakin’ Money Makers

U2 tops the new Billboard tally of top moneymakers in the music biz. The new chart, which combines Neilsen music data and Billboard Magazine‘s Boxscore numbers to calculate net earnings, says that Bono and company earned $255,022,633.35 during 2005. Most of U2’s earnings seem to have come from touring, as they ranked No. 1 at the box office. The Rolling Stones came in second on the Money Makers chart, with $152,356,754.50. Rounding out the top five are country star Kenny Chesney at No. 3, Paul McCartney at No. 4, and Elton John at No. 5.
