Stevens, Rice Headline Tibet House Benefit

Supporting Tibet isn’t just for the Beastie Boys anymore: Troubadour Sufjan Stevens, singer-songwriter Damien Rice, New Orleans pianist and songwriter Allen Toussaint, and avant-musician Laurie Anderson are among those slated to perform in the 16th annual concert to benefit Tibet House, which will also aid Hurricane Katrina victims. According to a post on the Tibet House website, composer Philip Glass, the curator of the event and a co-founder of the NYC Tibet House, will also perform at the Carnegie Hall fete on March 1, 2006.

The money raised by the concert will go to a Katrina benefit organization, while the money raised by a post-concert-party will go to the local Tibetan community. Last year’s Tibet House Benefit concert was a blockbuster that included Lou Reed, Nellie McKay, Antony (of Antony and the Johnsons), the Black Keys, and oft-Tibet-House-performer Patti Smith.
