Patti Smith Celebrates 30 Years of Horses

Patti Smith, perhaps the most critically acclaimed female rocker in history, will commemorate the 30th anniversary of her magnum opus, Horses, with a performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. On November 30, Smith will take the stage at BAM with her band (guitarist Lenny Kaye, drummer Dee Daugherty, bassist Tony Shanahan, and guitarist Tom Verlaine) to perform Horses in its entirety. Also joining Smith and her band on November 30 will be Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. On November 8, Patti Smith will release a two-disc set called Horses/Horses. The first disc will be a remastered Horses, while the second will be a live performance from the 2005 Meltdown Festival, which Smith herself curated. This year’s Meltdown Festival included classical, jazz, rock, and music panel discussions. Part of the proceeds from Smith’s BAM performance will be donated to Gulf Coast hurricane relief charities.
