New TV on the Radio Track Supports Katrina Victims

In a very thinly veiled dig at the Bush administration, TV on the Radio — currently holed up in the studio working on their new record — posted a free MP3 on their label’s site called “Dry Drunk Emperor,” with a tagline reading “To those affected by Hurricane Katrina: New York City’s heart is with you…Stay strong! We love you.” Like much of TVOTR’s canon, “Dry Drunk Emperor” sounds like one part southern gospel and one part indie rock. With lyrics like “Did you buy the bull they sold you / That the / Bullets and the bombs/ And all the strong arms / Would bring home security,” it’s crystal clear to whom TV on the Radio is referring when they cry “Dry Drunk Emperor.” TV on the Radio’s jibes are even more sharp when they exclaim, “He’s [the dry drunk emperor] been standing naked for a while! / Get him gone, get him gone, get him gone!!”
