Dance Music Lives in SF, NYC

It’s time to dig up those ginormous pants and platform sneakers you lost in 1999: Two major electronic music festivals have been announced, one in San Francisco that continues one of the genre’s longest standing institutions, and another in New York that extends one of this country’s biggest dance music brands. San Francisco’s Loveparade is on Saturday, September 24, and it features Crystal Method, Paul Van Dyk, Lee Burridge, and several other major electronic DJs from around the world. The Loveparade begins on 2nd and Market Streets and ends at the Civic Center, where the main event will take place. The Parade starts at 1 p.m. and the final float pulls into the Civic Center at 3:30. A full-blown week of “Love” events will accompany the Loveparade including an afterparty featuring globetrotting DJs like Carl Cox and Ferry Corsten. The San Francisco Loveparade pays homage to Berlin’s famed event of the same name, one that drew estimated crowds of over 1 million giddy ravers annually.

A week before the San Fran Love Fest is ULTRA.NY, which is on Friday, September 16, and features the Chemical Brothers, Paul Oakenfold, Timo Maas, Mylo, and Liquid Todd. The New York festival is at Central Park’s Rumsey Playfield and includes live performances as well as DJ sets. ULTRA.NY is an offshoot of Miami’s Ultra Music Festival which takes place annually during the Winter Music Conference, DJ culture’s debauchery-filled spring break.
