Jason Forrest
The Unrelenting Songs of the 1979 Post Disco Crash

Anysmarmy hack can slap on a Fu Manchu and cop some Travolta moves, but ittakes a fearless artist to turn the radio pop of the much-maligned ’70sinto an aesthetic revelation. Here, former WFMU DJ and IDM miscreantJason Forrest gives me-decade sound chunks–mirror-ball disco, classicrock, bubblegum pop–a loving blastoff. One track pits the Cars andCreedence Clearwater Revival in a pinball battle to the death, anothergives Elton John electronic boob implants. It’s both subversive andrespectful, vaporizing mash-up amateurism and retro pretense oncontact.
